Summer School of Glottodidactics 2026 – In classroom

Our preparatory course fulfills one of the requirements for admission to the DITALS Level I and DITALS Level II certification exams (see the exams page).
Its goal is to provide everything you need to approach and successfully complete the exam, while offering an updated theoretical and practical overview of Italian L2 teaching — valuable for both aspiring teachers and experienced instructors.

Alongside the glottodidactics lessons, you will carry out an internship in our Italian L2 classes, observing the work of our most experienced teachers and accumulating the hours required for DITALS exam registration.

Our trainers are teachers with decades of experience in Italian L2 classrooms and are officially recognized by the University for Foreigners of Siena as DITALS trainers.

Total duration: 2 weeks

Monday to Thursday

• 09:00–13:00: in-class internship
• 14:00–18:00: glottodidactics course

To access the DITALS certification exam, attendance of at least 24 hours is required for Level I and 32 hours for Level II.

The DITALS Certification attests to three levels of competence in teaching Italian as a foreign/second language, in line with the EPG – European Profiling Grid project.

DITALS BASE – Intended especially for teachers whose native language is not Italian and for those beginning to teach Italian L2; it certifies initial competence in teaching Italian to foreigners.

DITALS Level I – Certifies solid general competence in teaching Italian to foreigners, plus specific expertise for a particular learner profile (children, teenagers, adults and seniors, immigrants, university students, heritage learners, tourism/hospitality workers, Catholic clergy, opera singers, US Study Abroad students, or learners sharing the same L1: Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Russian, German).

DITALS Level II – Certifies advanced competence in teaching Italian to foreigners and is aimed at teachers working in any educational context and with any learner group. Some prerequisites for Level II admission may be replaced by Level I Certification.

DITALS Level II is among the recognized specializations required for access to the A023 teaching category in Italian public schools (Ministerial Decree No. 92, 23 February 2016).
